1. Self-Assessment and Research

Identify Interests: Determine which trades align with your skills and interests (e.g., carpentry, electrician, plumber, mechanic). 

Market Research: Explore job outlook, salary ranges, and potential career paths within your chosen trade. 

Local Programs: Investigate local apprenticeship programs offered by unions, employers, or vocational schools. 

2. Skill Development

Basic Skills: Ensure proficiency in foundational skills like math, hand tools, and basic safety procedures. 

Join Pre-Apprenticeship Program: Seek volunteer opportunities in your desired trade to gain hands-on experience. 

3. Application Process

Tailor Resume: Highlight relevant skills and experiences on your resume, emphasizing your commitment to the apprenticeship path. 

Cover Letter: Craft a strong cover letter expressing your specific interest in the program and company. 

Application Requirements: Carefully review application requirements including aptitude tests, interviews, and background checks. 

4. During the Apprenticeship

On-the-Job Training: Actively learn from experienced mentors and actively participate in hands-on work.

Union Apprenticeship Program Requirements

At least 18 years old | HS Diploma or GED | Drug Test and DOT Physical | Pass a background test | Driver’s License (with or without vehicle) | Physical ability to perform work | Basic understanding of math | Zero student debt
